Eye disorders can be experienced by anyone without knowing the age limit. Although some eye disorders can heal by themselves, but there are also some others who need treatment from an eye doctor.
Eye disorders should not be underestimated. Without proper treatment, abnormalities in the eye can make it difficult for you to go about your daily activities. Some eye disorders can even cause blindness if left untreated.
Various abnormalities in the eye
Let us examine the eight types of eye disorders that are most often encountered as follows:
1. Nearsightedness
Farsightedness or myopia is a condition when the eyes appear to see a faint object at a distance. Nearsightedness is generally caused by genetic factors. To overcome nearsightedness, it is necessary to use glasses, contact lenses, or laser eye surgery (LASIK).
2. Farsightedness
Nearsightedness is the opposite of farsightedness, when the eyes appear to see objects faintly at close range. Generally caused by genetic factors from parents who suffer from nearsightedness. Handling nearsightedness is the same as farsightedness namely the use of glasses, contact lenses, and laser eye surgery.
3. Night blindness
Night blindness is an eye disorder that occurs when someone cannot see in places with poor lighting, dark places, or at night.
Some of the causes of night blindness that can still be overcome by doctors, including cataracts, vitamin A deficiency and farsightedness. But until now, there has been no cure for night blindness experienced from birth.
4. Astigmatism
Astigmatism is an eye disorder caused by an imperfect or uneven cornea or lens curvature.
This condition results in changes in the location of the fall of light on the retina, causing vision to be faint or shaded. This eye disorder often occurs due to hereditary factors.
5. Color blindness
You are declared to have color blindness if you cannot see certain colors or are unable to distinguish one color from another (usually red and green).
This condition occurs when cone cells or color cells in the eye do not work normally. Generally color blindness is suffered from birth, but can also develop in adulthood due to the influence of drug consumption or the impact of certain diseases.
6. Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a disorder of the visual nerve due to increased pressure in the eyeball. This increased pressure is thought to be related to high blood pressure, the presence of obstruction in the tear ducts, or excessive use of corticosteroid eye medications.
7. Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis or often called pink-eye is an eye disorder that occurs due to inflammation of the conjunctiva (the thin membrane lining the eyeball and inner eyelid).
This condition is usually caused by bacteria, viruses, allergies, to exposure to cigarette smoke, dust or certain cosmetic items. Therefore, make it a habit to wash your hands properly as one of the prevention of this eye disorder.
8. Cataracts
Cataract is an eye disorder that occurs due to a buildup of protein in the lens of the eye, thus making faint vision. This protein buildup can occur due to aging, ultraviolet radiation, diabetes, obesity, eye injury, or it can be a congenital factor. Cataract surgery is the right therapeutic choice for cataract sufferers.
Eye health needs to be maintained as well as possible, so that its function is not disrupted. If you feel a complaint or abnormality in the eye, immediately check with an ophthalmologist so that appropriate treatment can be given.
